Tank never fills above 32L

#1 Post by v8vroom »

Hi all,

I’ve had my Jaguar XJ8 for around 3 months now and this problem still occurs.

I have a 50L Stako tank. I have a Romana system installed from 2007. 40L is my max.

I have never been able to get above 32L in the tank. Ever.
I’ve run the tank right to the brim, to the point where the LED gauge beeps and switches to petrol.

I have NO skills working on LPG kits so I’ll be taking it to a specialist.
What should they look for? They’ll probably know, but I hate being in situations where I don’t know what’s going on

Any idea what type of tank it is? Cylinder or Torroidal (wheel well shape)?

If you can access the valve, and know more than the capacity its worth checking the right multivalve is fitted (assuming its a single hole tank).

The multivalve will have markings around it to show the angle its to be used at, different tanks use different types of valves.

Photos might help if you wanted to post them of the tank and valve.

I've generally found most multivalves tend to be set to underfill below the 80% level. Can also be more reluctant to fill as much when the temperature is warmer as well.

Toroidal tank.

I’m not sure whether it’s a single hole or not.
I’m about to go to the mechanic so I’ll find out more information later.

You'd be able to tell by looking

https://lpgautosupplies.co.uk/product-c ... lpg-tanks/ shows both single and 4 hole tanks, 4 hole likely to have a large box over the valvework. Suspect its likely a single hole as they are more common as they are cheaper.

It will probabbly be a case of adjusting the float or replacing the valve, but see what they say.
