#1 Post by shrek snr » Sun Aug 26, 2012 2:16 pm

Hi guys I have a Petrol Mercedes 310 1988 motorhome fitted with a lpg conversion, 80lt stako tank and bigas regulator equipment supplied by Tinley Tech, fitted by a company in Grimsby Automotive Solutions in September 2005. I purchased the camper last October and only used it on short weekends away, but have just returned from a week away in Wales and have worked out the mpg on gas to be 13 mpg!!!! I know it is a heavy vehicle but it aint no racing car, It starts and runs fine any idear what sort of mpg I should be getting. Regards Colin

I have not run it any distance on petrol, the chap I bought it off all ways ran on gas. I had to fit a new electric fuel pump to get the petrol side to work. will post mpg next time I give it a run.Colin

It doesn't sound a completely unreasonable mpg. Why would someone go to the trouble of LPG conversion on a vehicle that doesn't do tens of thousands each year ... unless it were a heavy drinker.

On the other hand, if the previous owner didn't care enough to fix the petrol pump (and so risked stranding without fuel) its likely he didn't bother with LPG maintenance either in the last seven years.
A checkover/setup during a service probably wouldn't go amiss, things are very likely to have aged since install.

Why are we discussing this in "insurance issues" ?

P.S probable cause of pump failure was allowing petrol tank to run dry, avoid the same mistake!
