Shell LPG - new dispenser type

Has anyone used the new filler nozzles being rolled out in Shell stations? They are a bit like the De-Visser type i.e. twist & lock with a handle, but on the opposite side to the handle there is a huge lug.

My filler is located behind a recessed number plate - no problem filling up with the old Gas guard or indeed the De-Visser type if the shield was missing/flexible, but these new ones don't fit!

Unless you have a 10mm hidden filler, your standard bayonet fitting (or adaptor) should have 22mm internal threads into which you can screw a (or another) 22mm adaptor. The 10mm hidden filler type bayonet adaptors are the only type of bayonet fitting or adaptor that doesn't usually have it's own 22mm internal thread.

I thought I was going to have that problem with the Focus due to the towbar filler, but haven't as yet. I brought one of these to work around it if it did occur.

If anything I find those stupid recoil cords they have fitted are more of a problem. One benefit of filling up at countrywide instead!

I find the ridiculously short hoses they have to be the most annoying. My filler is mounted in the centre, next to the towball, and the hoses will only just reach unless I park really close. Compared with the ones on the Continent where they are long enough to reach the other side of the car!

That just compounds the problem - I've seen someone today at Cobham Services standing on the hose to make it reach when filling a Dodge RAM pickup truck.

I too had to stand on the hose at Cobham services, and all the old type shell stations, got a really funny look from a woman behind me at Cobham, I had misjudged the distance and had legs wide apart and one arm stretched out on the fill button!!! Ferkin hamstrings haven't recovered yet...

Tried to use a new shell pump at the weekend , didn't seem to want to grip my adaptor so had to go to asda instead.
Something in the filler just put a gouge in the adaptor , better pay more attention next time.

Yep the new ones at shell are awful, I can fill easily anywhere else but the new lug just makes it impossible.

Has anybody actually told Shell this? The staff at the local station were really apologetic.

Peartree (the A34 one) I pass regularly, though rarely actually use. Will have a look there next time I'm passing.

The one at Earlswood, nr Redhill, pretty much impossible to use as the lock back mechanism is foweled by the angle of the new nozzle

Your going to find alot of them about where the pumps have been replaced with the newer ones - One of the three stations here uses it for sure as well. I'd suggest you look at someway of making your filter fit (a 22mm to bayonet adapter being the easiest without any modification to the car if it will give you enough extra space provided its a normal bayonet filler point you have behind the number plate). Will also depend on the car in question as to if there is a better option?
