Tartarini issues on RR Thor '99 4.6

#1 Post by dubmike » Thu Jul 23, 2020 11:20 am

Hi folks,

Problems!

When the engine is up to temp the solenoid opens the gas to the vapouriser, but it's going on and into the combustion chamber before switchover actually completes. So it's now incredibly rich and stinking of gas.

Otherwise is fine.

Is this the injector rail? (mine is the small ciggie box style).

It's urgent as the MOT is booked for 28th.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Box style injectors suggests Matrix, black box with 4 small pipes coming out of it like this? https://tinleytech.co.uk/shop/lpg-parts ... der-black/ with 4 brass nozzles coming out of the bottom? For the gas to flow immediately something is holding the injectors open so it sounds like an electrical probem.

It might also be leaking up the vacuum line from the vapouriser to the inlet. Which will be a case of a vapouriser rebuild or new vapouriser.

Easy to find where the problem is, either pull the vacuum pipe off and see if its coming out there (which it shouldn't be under normal circumstances) or the injector pipes to see whats going on. If it is injectors, unplug them and see what happens then to isolate further.

Thanks folks, yes it is the Matrix unit, I had electrical issues in one already, not cheap either.

I'll so those tests today.

Cheers

In order of likelihood - reducer diaphragm leak, injector stuck open, electrical... But all possible.

Thanks fellas,

Just a note on the problem now solved, just a bit of a mucked up matrix interior, a really good clean with contact cleaner and a light lube with some razor oil has fixed the issue. When the other one failed it WAS electrical, but could be smelled a mile away. Excellent help here thanks a lot.

Have you got a filter between the reducer and the injectors? Matrix are usually very reliable.
