Egas SLY Interface Lead
I am looking for an interface lead for an Egas SLY System. I bought a multi adaptor kit but unfortunately the Egas ECU connector is nothing like anything in the kit. Does anyone out there have a USB Lead for this system that they are finished with any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

This is the only place I've managed to find that has them http://www.lpgshop.co.uk/e-gas-pc-rs-interface-lead/ It's serial but from playing with the eGas system on my P38 SE, it doesn't seem to want to communicate over USB.

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
I bought this one recently (USB) and works well. http://www.lpgshop.co.uk/e-gas-usb-ftdi-interface-lead/
The Egas connector is bigger than most, incorporating more connection pins. But the extra pins only forward lambda and rpm signal...
I am sure that in the past I have modified other (but serial - where this is USB) leads to work with Egas. Though I recently tried to do the same and failed to get a connection, hence the purchase!
Egas software doesn't help much with diagnostics - it will not tell you what is wrong.. What is your reason for buying the interface? Would expect to start reading vehicle model and symptoms even if you buy the cable and get the software connected....

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
I've swapped the egas system to my other car and need to set it up. I had thought about looking to modify the incoming connector but as you say it has 6 cores. Is there a software download available.
Thanks

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
I sorted a lead out from a European supplier hopefully it will work ok. Do you know if the small 4 way plugs for the level/on off switch are available, the plastic shroud on mine has broken or will any switch do the job.
Thanks

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
No idea if a replacement switch is available but any other switch is highly unlikely to work, it isn't just a switch. Where did you find the lead?

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
It's the small 4 pin plug that's knackered. I don't really need the switch.
I've ordered the USB interface from Projekt-Tech LPG.
The car I'm using it on is a 94 GM Saab 900 Turbo are there any things to be wary of when running on LPG. I read somewhere that there may be issues with the temperature and plugs.

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
As your car is earlier than my old 900XS, it will have a version of the original Saab B204 series engine, the one with the sloping cam covers and they are one of the best engines for LPG. Mine was still going strong when I sold it with 253,000 miles on the clock and according to the DVLA website was on the road for at least 2 years after that. Go for the NGK Iridium equivalent to the standard plugs (don't bother with the hyper expensive LPG series plugs) and you won't have any troubles. They'll last for about 50,000 miles too. See www.sparkplugs.co.uk to see what you need.
Do you mean the plug on the end of the cable to the ECU as, if my switch is the same, that is the only plug, it goes straight into the back of the switch.

Yes it's the small plug that goes into the back of the switch.
Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
If I remember correctly, and can't look without dismantling half my dash, it's a small 4 way plug very similar to a power connector on a computer. Maybe you could cut one of them down?

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
I sorted the connections on the back of the switch and got the kit connected up but think that there may be a issue with the gas ecu. I can't get the car to start when the lpg system is connected to the 12v. The car will start and then cuts out straight away. If I hold the key in the crank position it will run but as soon as I release to position 2 the engine cuts out. Is there any way to check out the ecu on the bench.
Will put a wanted request post out for a 4 cylinder egas ECU, never know my luck.

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
Why do you think the ECU is knackered? Sounds like it is switching to gas immediately (prematurely?) and so shutting off petrol, but not running further because it needs setting up / fuel flushed through / whatever. That's what you'd need the lead for of course ...

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
I think your explanation of the issue is right, as soon as I turn the ignition on I hear the LPG solenoid valves click in. As soon as I crank the engine on the key the LPG ecu loses the 12 v switch supply while cranking, as soon as I release the key the 12 v is back and switches to LPG and then cuts out straight away due to the petrol injectors being switched off by the LPG ecu.
Is it feasible that the ecu has somehow lost its basic config ?
Do you know if it is possible to force the EGas to start on LPG ?
Thanks

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
It's wired wrong then. The switched supply needs to come from somewhere like the petrol injectors so it is still powered while cranking, not from the accessory supply which is disconnected during cranking. Easiest place to pick up the ignition switched supply is from the common feed to the petrol injectors.

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
Would that make any difference as the car should run on petrol until the LPG running parameters are met temperature, revs and time delay.
Do you know whether you can force to start on LPG, my other car has an AG Zenit unit and if you keep the switch pressed for a period of time the car will start on LPG, got to keep the revs up until it warms up
As mentioned above the solenoid operates as soon as I switch ignition on.

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
Getting even further off topic but, no, I don't know of a way of making it start on gas. I did read of a way but it didn't work when I tried it on mine. One other thing with mine is that the ignition switched feed remains live for 30 seconds after the ignition is switched off. So if I turn the engine off and then try to restart it within 30 seconds, it is still on gas and flatly refuses to start. I have to wait for the power to go off and then start it so it starts on petrol and goes through it's normal changeover procedure.

Re: Egas SLY Interface Lead
Should start on gas OK under those conditions if correct nozzle size, pressure and calibration are used Gilbert!
But you may have nailed it - Maybe same issue with Jim'll fix it's car,, (immediate reply mode so no access to lol emoticons this time).
