Bl--dy Typical

Morning Chaps The Shogun has been running fine on gas until I decide to take the caravan away for a few days then it starts playing up. Had to come away on petrol (forgot how expensive it is) Started losing power and dropping cylinders when cruising around 2000 rpm. Swapped plugs coils and leads to ...

Re: LPG gauge doesn't work.

If your tank is 12 years old I would think about changing it as it's well past it's sell by date.

Did it work ok before you changed the front end? If so it's probably set to the wrong sender in the software or it's been connected wrong.

Hi Dan

If you let me swap a few bits off yours for testing I'll show you how to do the plugs. You have a 3.5 DOHC don't you?

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Morning Simon Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I've already tried this one, it had no effect. I'll try it again though because when I did this I unplugged the fuel pump and drove it until it started to cut out and then switched to gas. I'll do it the way you suggest by undoing the fuel rail connect...

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Good Evening gentlemen Been ignoring the problem for a few weeks so the wife doesn't divorce me :D. I was off today and while waiting for filler to dry in the kitchen before decorating I thought I'd have a play. Been reading about plug gaps and the effects of reducing the gap so I thought what the h...

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Morning CS I have been looking on Ebay for a later AEB ecu so I can do what you suggest but I haven't had any luck yet. It does seem as though it's running lean, when it's warming up and still in open loop it is ok. The problem is how do I get it to run richer, if I up the map multiplier the oxygen ...

I'll set it up again in the morning and hopefully it will be ok :?: If it still won't behave then there might be a burning Shogun on the drive

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

How do I do that. My gas ECU doesn't allow me to do that. If I jumper the cylinder out will that stop the gas injector working or do I have t disable the gas injector as well?

Regards Rob

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Good Evening Gentlemen (God that's a bit sexist) Just rebuilt the top end. Head gasket had gone on 4 cylinders and a few valves were leaking. Complete top end rebuild and valves recut, everything was within spec. Absolute pain in the arse to do. I now know how to do these things in my sleep :D Guess...

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Ah, so valve recession is a possibility then It's only done a 1000 miles since I gassed it so I doubt the valves are recessed. The probable cause is the amount of oil that went down the guides in the last couple of years. I imagine when I get the heads off I will find some extremely carboned up exh...

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Hi tubbs I did the belt lifters and valve seals but did it with the heads on because the compression test was good. Should of done a leak down and I would of seen the problems so the heads would of come Off. Can strip these in less than 2 hours now but it would of saved me some time if I had whipped...

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Hi Guys Finally found something wrong :D . Did a leak down test and 3 cylinders are in amazing shape at 6% leak down, not sure I completely trust the tester though. 2 are showing 10-12% with air leaking past the inlet and exhaust valves. Number 3 has a leaking head gasket, bubbles in the rad. Only u...

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Hi Tubbs Had another play yesterday and did as you suggested and swapped the 2 injector cut plugs over and did a re-cal. Now something odd happened which I haven't had time to look at yet. At idle the EML came on and gave me 3 codes, 14 Throttle Position Sensor 21 Engine temp sensor malfunction 41 I...

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Evening Tubbs If you mean swapping the big plugs at the ECU end over ( one with a red band) then yes I have done that with no effect. I haven't done an autocal with them swapped over though. I don't think I can switch off injectors with my ECU (an old 2568) I'm not sure what you mean by "With the ca...

Afternoon Gents (Sounds a bit sexist  ) I'm back :D Had another play yesterday when the wife was out, she came back early and gave me a b-ll-cking for messing with the car again. Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Big clue there maybe. I take it you have soldered the injector cuts in? If you had a solder in loom I have patch leads that bi-pass the AEB ECU. I have some ECU's that cause odd misfires on both fuels. It is only a possible but for the sake of a easy check I would consider either the patch leads or ...

Hi Guys EGR pipe is blanked off at the moment. Been like that for a few months. Haven't got round to Tigging up the split in the pipe yet. Put A new Lambda sensor in, made no difference. O2 signal is swinging ok. Rossko I agree with you entirely it feels like an vacuum leak or bad ignition but, I mu...

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Hi Tubbs Haven't done a wet comp test but dry I'm getting max 205psi min 194 on my gauge. This is exactly the same as when I bought it in 2004. I'll borrow my mates leak down tester and see if that sheds any light. Tappets are silent. I am a bit of a fiddler and couldn't resist stripping them and cl...

Re: This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Hi Tubbs

Ta for the reply.

Yes the aux butterflies are ok.

Tried leads bodged into the original coil packs and also coils from a later 3 litre ( the ones that sit on the top of the plenum). Didn't make any difference.

I can now remove the plugs and the plenum in my sleep :(

This Misfire is P1ss1ng me off Help

Hi Demi Gods As some of you may remember I have converted my 1995 3.5 DOHC Shogun to gas using parts I removed from a scrapper I bought off Ebay and new components where required. I have an rough idle on petrol and gas that is frankly going to get me a divorce. I know my way around an engine but thi...
