Re: How do Necam Diaphragm / Mushroom EGI injectors work & why?

Ah, I'd guessed as much. Shoving 'in series' won't fly. As my 'conversion' thread, I'm taking back to stock a factory-fit that would have had Necam from the off. Now with a set of Hana, I was thinking to fit a Tee or Y the two in, thus run both for TriFuel, but for the little use I'd give this, it's...

Re: How do Necam Diaphragm / Mushroom EGI injectors work & why?

As ever thank you for the full explanation LPGC, there's more going on with these than I thought. I've spent a couple of hours messing about, replacing these. If I read you right, it's doubtful I'll notice too much difference. I will do a check to see if one has less resistance to flow than the othe...

Re: How do Necam Diaphragm / Mushroom EGI injectors work & why?

I've since had a hunt round on the Rusky and Polish forums, and they seem the think the 'mushrooms' rarely fail. Necam systems always were pretty obscure. As far as I can work out, never produced as 'conversion' kits. Some Volvos had Necam in 1995, and until roughly 2005, fitted ex-factory to a few ...

Re: How do Necam Diaphragm / Mushroom EGI injectors work & why?

Thanks Brian, I did wonder. Those on my 99 car are plastic as shown, my stash are pressed-steel body. And yes, at such prices and 15-20 in my store, that mounts-up. Then again, there's asking £80 a pop, and there's getting. But I know GSI Necam injectors next to unobtainium, thus suspect these are r...

How do Necam Diaphragm / Mushroom EGI injectors work & why?

How do Necam Diaphragm / Mushroom EGI injectors work & why? I just like to know this stuff - a few queries: Ford and Volvos have Necam's mushroom injectors. They appear to be nothing more than a diaphragm operated valve? Mine have done 150K+. Fortunately I've collected heaps of them, I'm in there a...

Re: The Temptress

This is a project after my own heart. My grandfather had an AS. For those that have never seen one, they are huge. I run a classic as a 'daily' doing 9-10,000 a year. I'd admit, choosing a 60s Land-rover is a little more predictable than this old dowager, but I've always fancied a tatty 'gassed' Mk1...

Re: It'll be under 1300cc, yet which car does a 17YO convert to LPG?

In my experience, here's little rhyme-or-reason to insurance company quotes, add seemingly low-risk drivers and quotes drop or increase, all without explanation or consistency. Last week I upped the criteria to encompass a higher vehicle valuation, and when I didn't like the quote, you'd think putti...

Re: Conversion of a Volvo V70 (P80) 1999

I've sent a list of queries to classicswede, and spoke to him to confirm wiring for the OBD lines. Now installed. I freely admit that at this point I'm out of my comfort-zone. I know little of fuelling. I've less idea of how to select and config. the correct TAP. 10 days ago - I left Dai to ponder w...

Re: It'll be under 1300cc, yet which car does a 17YO convert to LPG?

I dunno... The smallest engine in the Volvo940 is a 2 litre, 3rd party insurance is only about how much damage you can cause to others (external and passengers)... 4 Passengers would fair a lot better in a crash in a V940 than in a city car but you could do a lot more damage to non-occupants. I fea...

Re: It'll be under 1300cc, yet which car does a 17YO convert to LPG?

Maybe worth making a decision whether it has to pass another MOT or one with a year's test can be treated as expendable. My lad's pretty realistic, it'll be throwaway motoring. And instilled from his father, he has the confidence not to bother too much with accepted norms, he won't give a sh*t. If ...

I have to chuckle, seen on eBay, I've just found a Tracker - it has an output trigger which can be configured to fire at a given speed. Come 35mph I'll wire it to drop the windows, and play Gary Glitter / 'Shaddap You Face' /`The Bee Gees over the stereo.

It's only a tenner.

Re: It'll be under 1300cc, yet which car does a 17YO convert to LPG?

My brother went round in an Escort van for years, and a Reliant Regal van before that... The bigger thing for any parent is when the kid does have the shunt.... No matter what you say to kids, and my lad pretty much hangs on my every word, when it comes to a 17YO's right foot, I can't see how words ...

Re: It'll be under 1300cc, yet which car does a 17YO convert to LPG?

I've seen this question raised on more heavily populated forums and the options invariably are the small hatch that doesn't attract the big premiums and has some reliability left in it (typically, a Toyota). Agreed, one boring pre-2005 Toyota, Nissan K11 etc. And it won't need to be too pretty, or ...

Re: It'll be under 1300cc, yet which car does a 17YO convert to LPG?

I've just read about 'The boy Ed'. - LPGC's post: https://www.lpgforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=102137#p102137 Boys will be boys... Thank christ he came out OK, and somehow that 3am call is no less inevitable for my lad. You have to smile. And again LPGC has it about right, in my case it's a factory-fi...

Re: It'll be under 1300cc, yet which car does a 17YO convert to LPG?

The chances of an 18 year old crashing a Fiesta, Corsa, Saxo or any other small hatchback are near 100% Absolutely correct, they're bookies under another name. The blunt reality is that the boy will have to suffer something 'uncool' if he wants transport in any form. I feel some of you are not answ...

It'll be under 1300cc, yet which car does a 17YO convert to LPG?

LPG/CNG for a 17 year old? Let's face it, a 17 year old boy in his first car will shunt it. I did that stuff on a motorcycles at his age, and of course, insurers know it. A 17YO finds premiums start at £3500, and minded to the reality, the price might even be seen as reasonable? Most insures have t...

Re: What pressure should a Single point vapouriser/reducer be set to?

Covered in another thread on this forum, I'm working on a Volvo conversion. I'll get back to the final leg of this job at some point, only I'm very happy with what I have. As I said, this 'abortion' works and works well, it starts from cold on gas, and in all weathers. This is not one of those tragi...

Re: Conversion of a Volvo V70 (P80) 1999

Ah, thanks... maybe it reads well enough from one line? I'll see what Dai has on this, though he didn't mention it. I've done a bit of homework on this and it appears there's several flavours of OBD ISO 9141-2. Pin 15 is optional. This only leaves the question, does the Nevo ECU know that?

Re: Conversion of a Volvo V70 (P80) 1999

First practical problem. I'm into the OBD wiring. Spoke to Dai, he confirms I read the Nevo schematic correctly, KME would have me tap the K-Line Pin 7 and L-line Pin 15. Now I looked... Only I've looked long and hard on the back of the Volvo OBD plug, and there's no wire going to the L-Line. Pin 15...
