Re: VSR prevention tips.

If a couple of degrees of advance could prevent having to fit a valve lube system on LPG converted engines with soft valves surely this would have been known since the 1970s... In which case installers would have been advancing ignition timing on all converted engines since then, particularly on tho...

Re: Conversion of a Volvo V70 (P80) 1999

You did the right thing, Dai's help was invaluable to me when I first started out that's for sure. And his 2nd opinion was great when I was diagnosing the Volvo water pump issue on this occasion. He may has some Nevo base maps anyway but the other day I didn't know if you or he would be calibrating ...

Has this car ever run well on LPG with the LPG components fitted?

The engine can be spark plug fussy.

Re: Tank leak! HELP!

i do wonder what exactly failed there to cause that to happen. Wonder if its possible it was a failed fill stop so tank was completely full, then the pressure release valve operated and then wouldn't shut once pressure had reduced to a safe level (probabbly due to being frozen in place). I'd guess ...

Re: Conversion of a Volvo V70 (P80) 1999

I'm sure the Volvo owner will be happy, you've even given him a spare LPG injector as a free gift..... Nothing wrong or disadvantageous with fitting 2 x 3 cylinder rails on a 5 cylinder engine though, and can have it's advantages ;-) The reason for the 8 cyl ECU instead of a 6 cyl ECU may be becaus...

Re: Conversion of a Volvo V70 (P80) 1999

I put a few Qs to Dai, and I've had a quick email from him: Rightly and correctly, he's shot down my idea for running the Necam in semi-emulation. This won't happen because as soon as we fire-up the Necam, the petrol-injectors will have their input stamped-on at the Necam end. Hence, it will never ...

Re: Conversion of a Volvo V70 (P80) 1999

Pics of the Volvo XC70 T5 I converted recently. Finished engine bay https://i.imgur.com/FX8vBSw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/stT4tBk.jpg I initially noticed unusual (none standard Volvo) hose clips on the thermostat housing to plenum heater pipe and radiator bleed to expansion tank pipe. There was also a...

Re: Liquid Injection

Good point Bri, I did see the gaseous filter but put it down to a language interpretation problem and assumed it meant a liquid filter... But since reading your post looking again the pressure regulator pic looks like a vaporiser rather than a liquid pressure reg. Some of the 'fire' engines are 'mul...

Re: Liquid Injection

It would be easier to have a liquid injection LPG setup start on gas than a vapour injection system but this isn't to say that the liquid system's ECU will necessarily allow it. Don't know if this Fiat factory fitted liquid injection setup will start on gas (unless you know?). Factory fitted vehicle...

Re: Liquid Injection

Liquid injection options for some direct injection engines include using the petrol direct injectors to inject liquid LPG at very high pressure instead of liquid petrol at very high pressure... But this is a different technology/methodology to port injection liquid gas injection systems. The idea of...

Re: Timing advance processor

On my last post I meant to include a bit at the end to say there are other ways some ECUs can detect incorrect cam timing besides direct comparison between cam and crank sensors but direct comparison is one way. I think it's the norm for ignition and even point at which each injection pulse begins t...

Re: Timing advance processor

We broadly agree mate but I would repeat that some engines with hydraulically controlled VVT do compare cam position sensor pulses to crank position sensor pulses to know how far cam timing is advanced/retarded. Might have an electrically controlled hydraulic master solenoid that feeds oil to a remo...

Re: AC Stag shows empty when full

As I read it you've looked at the sender unit on the tank itself and seen that the gauge there has moved from empty to full when you've filled the tank but the switch on the dash only shows a single red LED regardless? You did try pressing the switch with the engine running and warmed up? What happe...

Re: Tank leak! HELP!

Save to drive now, take it to an LPG fitter yourself. I'd have done things a bit differently but you couldn't be expected to know and you did the right thing in those circumstances. Before gas built up in the area I'd have nipped out to the countryside somewhere quiet and removed the plastic cover t...

Re: VSR prevention tips.

The ESGI won't do petrol addition. Agreed with Bri and Richard, fit a lube system. Yes I believe there is ironic truth in that if there is oily blow-by that's fed back into the intake it can help protect valves - A slightly sick engine that needs a lube but doesn't have one fitted may have it's valv...

Re: Tank leak! HELP!

The large plastic bit is the dust/splash cover. Under that there's the brass valve, on the brass valve there may be a plastic section that the tank level sender (gauge) mounts on. Are you terming the whole brass valve 'on-tank gauge' ? Was it running on gas on your way home today? Have you recently ...

There are petrol / electric / LPG tri-fuels out there, I've made for a lot of them myself... But yours might have been the first petrol / CNG / LPG tri-fuel. On difficulty of obtaining parts and getting them to match up (different threads etc), is it not possible to say to an Italian supplier 'You u...

Re: Won't run on LPG when cold

If it isn't a solenoid problem or due to the reducer getting too cold it could be a mixture problem... The reducer may have a different sensitivity to the vacuum signal created by the the mixer when it's cold and cold gas is a bit denser anyway. Does it sputter and quickly get worse or does it simpl...

LPG?... it is written, 'tis for "Whoopsies'. :D Huh... bit cheeky! ;-) I know what you mean in terms of CNG tanks are heavier, higher pressures, tank plumbing more difficult... But once you get past what is considered that relatively simple fitting stage in LPG circles you're into the realm o...
