Re: Basic query re: 8mm v 6mm outlet valves

Happens each time when at high revs WOT acceleration - no such symptoms on petrol - its as if the gas is struggling to keep up when the engine is at the top end of the rev range with full bore acceleration requested by the driver. Reducer is a Prins 180/101010/B with an 8mm inlet valve/solenoid - wh...

Basic query re: 8mm v 6mm outlet valves

Hello all, Car & conversion: '98 740i M62B44 4.4 non-vanos engine - conversion is Prins VSI2 with Keihin yellow 73cc injectors & Emer single hole multivalve. I transplanted my conversion from a srapped 540i and all appears well under normal usage. However, at the extremes of the rev range under WOT,...

wanted: Irene 680/270mm toroidal tank

Hello all, I'm after an Irene 680mm dia 270mm height torodal tank please - with standard single 30 deg flange for multivalve. Need to be specific on brand (I think) so the replacement tank will match the holes I've got drilled for my existing Irene 680/240 tank - which I'm discovering is too small a...

Re: Bmw x5 4.4 2001 lpg manifold drill advice

Your supplier should be at hand to give you tech support? I sell DIY kits with very thorough tech support included, I even do the calibration and documentation. Have drilled hundreds of BMW 4.4 V8 manifolds. Simon I defer to Simon's advice here, but in my opinion you do need to remove the intake ma...

Re: 1998 BMW 740i - DIY Conversion using Prins VSI 2.0

Just a quick report after around 500 miles and a good few tanks of gas and just under 600 odd miles of running. I had a coolant leak from the rear coolant hoses that feed the reducer. I had used T peices that were of too small a diameter - and the clamping force on the jubilee cip must have been too...

Got time to install the tank spreaders over the weekend: http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag162/john-spafford/E38%20740i/progress%20update%20pics/IMG_20161018_193457_zpszlkaocdj.jpg and: http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag162/john-spafford/E38%20740i/progress%20update%20pics/IMG_20161018_19350...

Re: 1998 BMW 740i - DIY Conversion using Prins VSI 2.0

My solution will be as follows: 20x4mm (or 6mm dependent on locating longer bolts for the tank) flat steel bar spreaders, each with one hole - for the existing tank bolts, aligned to cross the wheel well from left to right if viewed from behind the car, so that the bars sit on each ridge that's part...

Re: 1998 BMW 740i - DIY Conversion using Prins VSI 2.0

Thanks to everyone that's chipped in so far. I'm having a hard time visualising these solutions in my mind, and am wondering if anyone has any photos of solutions to this issue for BMW E38/E39 cars? Copious googling shows only that single hole toroidal tanks can be used - but not how people solve th...

Actually Si, was hoping for your input on my BMW thread (the 740i thread - and latest question re: securing the tank)? This one isn't my car!

Re: having a bmw x5 2004 converted. where can we put the fil

Forgive my ignorance here; but I've seen a couple of posts recently on various forums where folks have been told a filler cannot be installed in a bumper due to 'new regs' or a 'change in the law'. Have I missed something - as I'm only aware of the 2003 COP11 amenment 3 (http://www.uklpg.org/uploads...

Re: 1998 BMW 740i - DIY Conversion using Prins VSI 2.0

Thanks to all for the advice and observations so far. One final thing I need to sort is properly securing the tank in place. It's been pointed out a couple of times that centre of the turret is not a permanent piece of the rest of the wheel well, and is bonded in. Thing is I'm struggling to visualis...

Re: 1998 BMW 740i - DIY Conversion using Prins VSI 2.0

Minor update after a week or so's running: 2x mopre clips under wheel well for fill/outlet lines. Was paranoid about damaging the tank - so tapped through with a tiny drill bit, used it as a depth gauge and then cut the heads of my p-clip bolts to make sure they wouldn't interfere with the tank: htt...

Re: DIY conversion of X5 using second hand Prins bits

VSI1 and struggling to remember but reckon it will have been the 4.4. Vanos doesn't really make any difference from an install point of view... unlike Valvetronic. Don't remember ever seeing an X5 with cable operated throttle, thought they were all electronic. Not much doubt on this install that th...

Re: DIY conversion of X5 using second hand Prins bits

Is it the x5 4.4v8? Is it VSI 1 or VSI 2 gear? If so, engine essentially identical to the 4.4v8 in my car - subject to changes like introduction of vanos, use of electronic throttle body, rather than manual TB with cables, more sensors, etc That blue silicone vac hose - is it not reducer pressure re...

Great write-up and well illustrated! Not a bad idea but can imagine thoughts of others as multiple fire extinguishers are positioned beside the vehicle on the forecourt - What's up here then, risque fire breathing show perhaps... Simon I parked up and went in to tell them it was my first fill...

Following morning, I went to my local filling station somewhat nervously for first fill. Slightly cheeky pic - as phone shouldn't be out on forecourt, but just to show the nerves involved - see the fire extinguishers at the ready! http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag162/john-spafford/E38%20740i/pr...

Delighted to say that since my last substantive post, my LPG conversion is complete and appears to be working! Was it my conversion of an E38 740i to LPG using 2nd hand Prins VSI 2.0 gear? If so, I''ve got some happy news to report on my coversion - only from today, will update the thread momentarily, but short news is - it works!

Hello all,

Been a long time since I updated on this project - but it's been lurching on slowly whilst life got busy at home and work. Couple of posts to come shortly with progress on tank and wiring :-)
