Re: Pipe sizes.

Sizing a mixer is pretty much a black art. My 4.0 litre V8 has a34mm mixer on it and I bought a 4.6 litre one with a non-functioning LPG system as the centre of the mixer was missing. I was advised to go for a 36mm one, which made sense with the bigger engine, but there was no way I could get it to ...

Re: VSR prevention tips.

There will have been inserts as the head is, I assume, alloy, so nowhere near hard enough to have the seats cut directly into the head material. Even cast iron isn't hard enough. The original A series BL engine used in the Mini (the proper one not the BMW imposter) had a cast iron head with seats cu...

Re: Timing advance processor

On some engines, those that use a wasted spark ignition system, cam sensor won't be needed as the sparks fire on both the compression and exhaust strokes. So as long as the crank sensor is working the timing can be calculated from that alone.

Re: VSR prevention tips.

I suppose I'm trying to find the golden easy answer to lead but I suppose if there was an alternative we'd all know about it and be using it!! There is. Buy an older Volvo, BMW, Saab, Mercedes, Land Rover, etc that all have hard valve seats and don't need lead so don't need Flashlube. That's why co...

Re: Tank leak! HELP!

As said, once the cloud has cleared and the fire service have declared it safe, there shouldn't be a problem with running it on petrol. You've no gas left in the tank so it won't try to run on it.

Re: Conversion of a Volvo V70 (P80) 1999

The ECU is programmed to give the optimum amount of advance for running on good quality petrol and the knock sensors will cause it to retard the ignition when they detect a knock, due to low grade petrol or whatever, it won't keep winding advance on until it sees a knock. Hence, to run more advance ...

Re: Vialle type f converter

That ad says "with inlet, prime & idle lock-off solenoids" which would suggest that's what the extra ones are. Inlet solenoid would normally be external to the vaporiser, prime is probably there to give a dollop of gas for cold starting so you don't have to crank it over too long to draw the gas in,...

Re: VSR prevention tips.

Burnt valve would be the opposite to tappety noise as the gap closes up until it reaches the point where the valves don't close fully so the engine starts to run rough due to a loss of compression. There's additives you can add to petrol intended for use in older cars that were meant to run on leade...

Can't see it for the ice but mention of a leak where the gauge joins the tank suggests an external gauge? That's not right surely? Although on a Profess install nothing would be a surprise......

Re: Tank leak! HELP!

Yup, that's a hell of a leak you've got there! Ordinarily it would be a case of park it somewhere in the open, not near to any drains where it can pool, and let it vent itself off. Any idea how much was in the tank? 1 litre of liquid will vaporise into 270 litres of vapour.....

It seems that it suits you but it would be no good for me at all, I'd be on petrol most of the time. You can fill up at home and refill after you've been out, I could fill up at home then where? It's a bit like a guy that used to work at my place who ran his Shogun on waste veg oil. I asked where he...

It's Brexit, Covid and Customs delays. I install Air Con systems, primarily Fujitsu, and one customer wanted what they call the Designer Range indoor unit in silver/grey rather than the usual white. Checked availability with Fujitsu UK to be told they had 2 container loads on order but they were stu...

Are you using oil and is your motor pre-2003? The 1ZZ-FE engine has a design flaw which means it can use more oil than it should. It was corrected for 2003 and later engines.

Re: VSR prevention tips.

If you are only doing low mileage then you won't use much Flashlube fluid anyway so cost shouldn't be an issue. Or you could fill the petrol tank with Avgas from your nearest airfield so it does get a good dollop of lead when warming up on petrol. Will cost a fortune and bugger the cat though.

Re: What is the point in lpg anymore

If the party is nearly over, and I'm not sure it is, that's a shame. With Dacia now offering their entire range of cars with LPG as a £500 option while pushing the running costs and the fact that their cars produce more power on LPG than on petrol and Volvo now producing LPG trucks (hence the Ashfo...

Re: Pipe sizes.

Yes, it needs to be mounted vertical with the diaphragm facing North/South. The diaphragm is what controls the pressure, which is set at marginally below atmospheric so the gas is 'sucked out' by the airflow through the mixer. Consequently if mounted any other way, the pressure, and hence the mixtur...

Don't forget it needs to be mounted so the diaphragm is in line with the car, so mounted with it running front to back.
